Christmas Holiday
Last weekend, as in the 20th, we opened our Xmas presents at home. We don't teach our children about Santa Claus. Since I was scheduled to work on Xmas Eve and we were travelling Xmas day, we decided to open them early. Shane was very excited to finally get his John Deere Tractor and John Deere square baler!! Now he wants a kicker wagon to go with it... thank goodness his birthday is only a month away! Kirsten got her new bicycle that she has been asking for very patiently for months. And Heidi got an MP4 player. They got other stuff, too...but those were the "main" gifts.
Yesterday, here at Mom's, we had our holiday dinner. My brother Todd, his wife Sue, and 2 little girls came, along with my Gramma! She is 94 years young, and does amazingly well! We had a wonderful turkey dinner with all the trimmings, and lots of desserts. Todd made an amazing peanut butter pie. How did my brothers get to be such good cooks/bakers? Anyway, that gene missed me, I think. Anyway, back to the subject, we had more people come for a "snacky supper". It was great to see some of my cousins that I don't often see. We were all so close as kids. Now it is fun to see the next generation of cousins playing together. If only we all lived much closer so they could be as close as we were as kids! Hopefully as the kids grow up a bit we will be able to travel and do more things together. It is tough with toddlers that is for sure. And somehow, my kids are the older ones in the group. I do know how that happened (duh), but it still seems sorta wierd.
So, we are enjoying a couple relaxing days here at Mom's. Leigh and dad went to the shooting range to try out Leigh's new Blackpowder Flintlock rifle. It is now Blackpowder season, and Leigh is going to go out hunting when we get back home next week. Mom and I are going to see if we can go out this afternoon and leave the kids at home with Dad and Leigh. Think it will happen? Well, you can hope for us anyway. I don't have much hope that it will happen, but hey, we'll see.
Hope you all are enjoying wonderful days with family and friends. Pretty soon it will be a new year, with new hopes, dreams and goals. Rest up...you may need it for 2009!!!

Boring Blog
After our lovely Thanksgiving weekend, deer season started. Monday Leigh went over to his dad's. My brother in law Jason shot a doe. Everything else was misses. I don't remember what days things happened the rest of the week, but Leigh did get two little button bucks. Between them both, we have the equivilent of 1 deer's worth of meat. We took it to a butcher, a neighbor of ours. In the past I have done up the deer myself. I don't have the full day it takes for that anymore, so we decided to have someone else do it. So, off they went to the neighbor's. We didn't think to ask if he packages it or not! Well, he doesn't....so now I get to package it all! bummer. That is 1/2 the job. So, that will be part of my project for this afternoon. The steaks and chops are packaged I just have about 50 pounds of hamburger to package!! yukky job.
We spent last weekend in NJ at Garrett and Mickie Marshall's house. It was lovely. The kids all played so well together, that we could just be adults. Very little referreeing to be done! YAY! We went to chuckeecheese, which was pretty fun for big and little kids alike! Then grabbed a pizza for lunch and then back to hang out at their house. After meeting on Sunday we went back to their house for a wonderful dinner. Then left to come home. We stopped in Williamsport at Jeff and Connie's so that Leigh could pick up his new muzzleloader. I guess this is his latest hobby. Thanks Jeff. Leigh really needed another one! snicker.snicker. It was an awesome weekend!!
Next Friday night we are going to a cookie exchange, so we are making Monster Cookies this afternoon. It is such a large batch and contains ingredients I don't keep on hand, so I gotta go visit the grocery store! :D
This past week I worked just my normal 3 12 hour nights. Ahhh. so nice to be back to my own schedule after 4 weeks of 4 nights a week! This week, we had needy patients. 2 of the nights I had patient's that were crashing, and required many many calls to doctors to get them stabilized, in addition to support families who hadn't addressed code status yet, and weren't sure if the patient would want extra medical interference!! :D This tends to drain me emotionally. But it is very rewarding when they recover and the family is so incredibly happy. We form special bonds, which are very inspiring to me.
Leigh and the kiddoes surprised me this week by cleaning!!! leigh cleaned my kitchen up for me. Kirsten and Shane cleaned Shane's room. And Heidi got started on hers! It is an awesome way to start my 4 day weekend, with the house partially caught up!! I am working on laundry this morning. Leigh and Heidi can run the washer and dryer, but never seem to be able to fold and put away. So, it gets stockpiled so that MOM can do it on her days off! oh happy joy joy. Anyway, I'll put on some boogie woogie music and get it all done up and put away. Leigh had the idea of putting all of our family's clothes in one spot. So we have cleaned out our large walk in closet so that all of our hanging clothes can be there. We moved all the dressers into our bedroom, for all the other clothes. I think it will work very well. The kids don't have the space in their rooms for all their toys and clothes, so now they just have their beds, toys, and books. MUCH easier for them to keep clean.
So... I have the next few days off. I go back to work on Tuesday night.

Post-Thanksgiving!
Last Sunday we spent a wonderful day with Jeff and Connie Fuller. Mike Koser and the boys came over to their place to play, too. It was great to be with all of them again. It is great to be with people who we are all friends with. Connie and I can talk for hours. Leigh and Jeff and Mike go play in the shop/with guns or whatever they do. And all the kids have a riproaring time together!
We've been working at hoeing out our junk! We worked hard in our bedroom this week. Leigh also got Shane's room nearly cleaned out. I need to go through clothes and toys to get rid of stuff he has outgrown. The girls' room is now passable, but I need to go through their toys, too.
I worked 3 nights this week. I was called of Tgiving night. Thank goodness. My folks were coming on Black Friday for our Thanksgiving here. Lots to do to host a dinner, and I wasn't excited about having to work the night before. They arrived about 11Am with my brother Todd, his wife Sue, and their daughters, Laura and Abby! What a wonderful surprise!!! We had a truly wonderful time with them all!! Mom and Dad stayed the night and will be going back home later today.
Today is laundry day....and maybe taking Mom out for something fun to do. Dad and Leigh are hauling corn to the feed mill.

11/22/08
Last Sunday we went to Darren and Rebecca's for supper and game night. Molly and Ben came, too, so we had lots of laughs! Good times. We need to repeat it often!
Leigh has been helping his dad and brother with combining corn. So, he and Shane spent several days this week hauling corn to the feed store. Shane likes to play "boss" in the combine, telling Leigh how and where to drive. They both have a good time!
We got our first batch of snow this week. We only have a couple inches, but boy is is COLD!! I am not too excited about driving on questionable roads to work, but guess I'll get used to it. Most of my drive is highway, so it should be well cared for. There were several car pileups, that brought business to the hospital!
Last night we went to Aaron and Janet's to help celebrate Clayton's 2nd birthday! How did he get to be 2 already?? He and Shane are best friends and cry when they leave each other. Cute.
Today we are organizing and cleaning out the house. Lots to do. Before I started school, I cleaned out every closet and cubby. The house was completely clean when I started school 2+ years ago. It is amazing how things get cluttered in that length of time. So much stuff just stashed here and there. And then ofcourse we have been working at remodelling the kitchen, so that adds to the chaos! We are anxious to get everything in order again.

The weekend is here... FINALLY!!
Our week started with Shane and Leigh being sick. Monday night I went to work, and ended up coming home a couple hour early to spend the next 24 hrs in bed/running to the bathroom to empty my GI tract of all contents as rapidly as possible. Heidi too, had this issue, but hers didn't last nearly as long, thank goodness for her. Thank you to my mother-in-law for all her kindness and taking care of us all! It would have been a whole lot worse without her!
Tuesday morning was the Veteran's Day assembly at the school. Every year the kids sing songs in honor of our country. Every year I cry when the entire assembly sings "God Bless America". They have some Veterans that do a flag salute. Very sobering. This is the future of our country. Amazing children.
I worked Wednesday and Thursday nights. good nights, all in all.
Yesterday we went to a dairy cow auction! They were bbeeeeaaaauuuutttttiiiiiffffuuuulllll! I have never seen such beautiful animals. We are excited to think that in a few months, we will be able to be buying that quality of animals! Time for the next stage in Leigh and Jill's journey of life....where is it going to take us??
We went to Lowe's last evening, and bought the rest of the trim for our Kitchen. Man, I can't wait to have it D-O-N-E! It has been way tooooo long! The hard part is...now we move to the Living Room!! URG! I am so weary of living in a house that is in the midst of remodelling! I suppose that months from now, I'll look back and forget exactly how frustrating it was. Atleast I hope so.
Today we are going to Darren and Rebecca's, and Molly and Ben's Wedding Reception! How fun to celebrate with two young couples as they start their journeys together. We are having an ice cream social for them. Leigh is to be the MC.... this should be interesting. Leigh with a microphone....scary thought.
till next time....

sickly weekend, I guess
So, all in all, I believe that the delicious birthday cake, that got thrown out, wasn't the culprit after all!!! Maybe we'll just have to celebrate with another yummy cake!

Happy Birthday Kirsten!
Kirsten turns 7 years old this week! Since she loves Barbies-- we got her a barbie dream house. It has been the ultimate!! Even Heidi, who is "getting to big for barbies" (according to the princess herself), is really enjoying it! Here they are having a great time. I'll post more pictures later this week.

Another week gone by...
On a brighter side-- I bought a new computer this week. The old one was quickly failing... so now we have a nice new one! unfortunately I haven't gotten to play on it too much....
Kirsten spent Friday night at her cousins house! I am sure that was great fun! I actually haven't seen her since Thursday suppertime. Crazy busy life.
Heidi and Shane enjoyed playing together. Heidi read stories to Shane which he absolutely loved.
Ben Thomke came today. He and Leigh worked together some on the kitchen and a few other projects. It was nice that he could come.
No other news now...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKLGHiW7_Jg
The above video is about a little boy. My dear cousin and her husband, Julie and Travis Trotter, have opened their lives and hearts to this dear boy. He will be joining them in Georgia in the next couple of months. They have received a grant from an organization that will match $ for $ everything Julie and Travis raise up to $2500 by Nov 5th. This $$ goes towards expenses necessary to complete the whole process. Anyone wanting to do something along this line can do so. Donations are tax deductible and you do get a receipt back from them for tax purposes. Checks can be made out and mailed to:

Auction!!
Oh, Leigh bought a basketball hoop and a tetter....
It's Saturday
Then we went to the mall so I could buy some new shoes for work. I DO NOT like buying expensive shoes. However, I have gone through 2-3 shoes in the past 4 months. I still wear them ofcourse, but my feet cry out by the time I am on my way home from work. I firmly believe that taking care of aches and pains will keep me from getting burned out. So.... I spent 135 dollars on new sneakers!! YIKES!!! They had just better last a good 6 months!! I got these insoles to put in them, that have a 1 year guarantee. The saleman says he has had his a good 6 months, and took them out of his shoe to show us. So, we were sold on the idea. He showed us the difference between the soles that are in sneakers and these gel thingies. No wonder soles breakdown for me. So... we'll see how this works!
Leigh is off to a machinery auction today. We are going to go join him for lunch. I just hope he doesn't find all kinds of stuff to drag home!! ha .ha. I am SURE he will find SOMETHING!! Now that I say that... I will probably find something I want! (tail between my legs like a puppy dog).
We do need to do some cleaning around the house! Leigh has done good this week keeping up on the laundry for me. It does need to be folded and put away. Plus we are having company for dinner tomorrow... so I need to dig out more plates from the garage. I still have 4-5 bins of stuff that went to the garage when we started the kitchen project.
Well, I need to get a coat of stain on the cabinet doors before we leave for the auction.....

Wedding Wknd.

Mr. and Mrs. Darren Watkins
10.11.08
We were so excited to travel to Ohio to see a wonderful young couple get married! They are perfect for each other, and we have been waiting SOOOOO long! Their wedding was beautiful!
On the way to their wedding, we had to stop and drop the kids off at my parent's. And then stop again about 45 minutes from our hotel so that Leigh could pick up some equipment he bought on eBay. We got to the hotel about 8pm, went to Cracker Barrel for a quick supper. Then we met up with Big D, Benji, Napster, LG, and Amber in the hotel room. FYI, D spent his last night as a single man watching..... hunting videos!!! :D
The next day was out to breakfast with that same crowd. Then quickly get ready for the wedding! It was a gorgeous fall day. After the reception...travel back home to mom and dad's. After meeting and lunch at my favorite restaurant (Hoss's Steak House), we came home to see all of Leigh's family. We had 19 for supper around the table at Frank and Marilyn Purcell's. First time we have ALL been together, EVER!! Amazing. We did take some pictures, too!
So, it has all been a whirlwind... I am ready to crash!!

Another new week....
This week will be busier! Leigh is off to union meeting with the kids. I was planning on going, but got called in to work 11A-7P today. I need to get some more housecleaning done tomorrow. Delmar and Murhl are coming for Supper tomorrow night. Tuesday night I work again 11p-7a. Wednesday and Thursday are 12 hour shifts, and then we leave Friday for Ohio!! We are excited about Darren and Rebecca's wedding on Saturday. Then back to mom and Dad's late Saturday night. Back home here on Sunday afternoon so we can spend some time with Leigh's family who are all coming home!!
Will it ever slow down??????

Is it Tuesday already?
Yesterday started out as a good day.... until about 9am when I hit the couch. I spent the rest of the day running to the bathroom. yuk. not fun. by last night, I was concerned that I would never be normal again. I had a good night's rest, and today feel some better. I ate some ramen noodles, and so far so good! I go to work for 7pm today...so hopefully I am 95% well by then!
Leigh is working at Coke today, the girls are in school. So it is just Shane and I here at home. I need to get some things cleaned up around here. I work 3 12 hour shifts in a row. We are leaving on Friday to go to my parents' for the weekend. We are spending the day with dear old Dad on Saturday. The plan is to cook stew over a campfire. Should be an interesting day. This is to celebrate his 60th last week.
So, this blog may not get updated until next week!

9-20-08
Speaking of which, since yesterday, I have been thinking so much of the Clites Family. Fondest thoughts and memories go their way! Death from cancer seems to give so many mixed feelings to those left behind. We are so thankful for her steadfastness in life, her faithfulness, and so we can know she has gone to her reward. But then, what about those left behind. How can we grieve for someone who has gone on? Why do our hearts tug, and miss her? She was a wonderful wife and mother. Death: another milestone in the continuum of life.
We were with Darren and Rebecca again last night. Their house is coming along nicely. 3 weeks from today is their wedding! The pressure is on.... They hope to finish the bathroom today, so they can rip apart the other one! Her parents are there.... so her and her mom are going to be decorating. It is going to be adorable.
The kids and I are home today. Gotta get some housework done. Then maybe some shopping later on. Leigh has worked some in our kitchen this week, and we are ready to buy some more supplies. So, I may pay a visit to Lowe's.
My dear old Dad turned 60 this week. I can't quite figure out how my parents are pushing the limit for retiring??!! How did they get to be this old? I know, I know, when I am 60 I won't believe how young it is. But, it is just sobering to think of how we age. Anyway, we are planning to celebrate his birthday next weekend. All of us kids are going home to spend the day together on Saturday the 27th. It seems whenever we all go home, we all have our own agenda, and maybe don't spend a whole lot of time together. We jokingly refer to mom's house as the hotel. We plan to cook stew/soup over an open fire next weekend. Sounds pretty fun.

Home Sweet Home
Here are some pictures of our place...
Just some pretty flowers in my flower bed.
This is what happens when wind hits a popup camper. It wasn't even set up, but I must admit that the top wasn't latched down either! This is what we woke up to find this morning! My flower pots out back were blown somewhere down into the woods!
Home Sweet Home. This is the view from up by the road. Thanksgiving day 2008 will mark a full decade here! It sure has changed in 10 years.
The begining of the road down into the woods. About 1/4 mile down this road is a beautiful little creek. Leigh just built the road this summer. It is gorgeous, and peaceful down by the creek.
Anther angle of the backyard. We finally got the backyard graded off and seeded this summer. It is still very steep, but atleast it can be mowed and walked across now!
The good old dog... Pookie. He will soon be 11 years old!!

Voting Day!
Tonight is my last night of 12hr shifts this week. I am pretty tired today. I will be glad when I wake up tomorrow afternoon, and be able to get back to my house projects. Maybe we can finish the kitchen and get started on the Living room this week. Tomorrow will be laundry and cleaning day!
Shane was running a fever last night. It was hard to go to work knowing I had a sick boy at home! Thankfully our kids don't seem to get sick, so this hasn't been an issue normally. It really tugged at my heartstrings to go to work while he was crying. Thankfully his fever broke after a couple doses of meds, and he is doing just fine today. He did take a nap, which is unusual for him, but welcomed by this ole mommy! :)

The weekend
Sunday was meeting at Jim and Janet's. Then we went to Leigh's folks for a potluck lunch. It was wonderful to be with everyone there! We stayed long after everyone else left. It was nice to sit and relax and chat with mom and dad. Leigh and Shane tried fishing again.... tried being the operative word.
The girls are on week 2 of school now. I am spending today sorting toys, finally. What a chore. For the past 2 years, while I was in school.... toys were just piled in to rubbermaid bins when it came time to clean up. Well, now it is time to sort them the way they used to be sorted. I had no idea my girls had so many barbie dolls!!! good grief! And they sure have used up coloring books! I can't believe how much stuff I am throwing away!
Tomorrow Frank turns 64! Amazing!

end of the workweek!
The girls are enjoying school. Heidi has homework tonight for the first time! A note from Kirsten's teacher says she is doing very well.
Shane is helping daddy make hay! He comes home with all sorts of stories about what he and daddy/grandpa did that day. He is a little farmer.
When Leigh was working for Coca~Cola fulltime, he initiated the proceedings to vote the union out. It went through NY state courts, and was sent on to the supreme courts twice. It has now been ruled that the employees can vote for what they want. So, the voting day is next week. Leigh has worked very hard with lawyers to understand all the legal jargon and proceedings. Coca~Cola Enterprises is very proud of what Leigh has accomplished so far. We are pretty sure that the union will be voted out. This will mean pay changes, benefits changes, etc. etc. But it will be so much better. It has been alot of work, but Leigh is glad to be able to do something to help so many people.
I picked lots of tomatoes this week. I need to cook them down and freeze the puree. Neither Leigh or I like fresh tomatoes, but we sure eat alot of pasta! and Chili! And lasagna! you get the point. So, we have 12 tomato plants that are nearly breaking with the fruit! Lots of huge green ones coming on, too. Leigh and his dad planted lots of potatoes this year. We need to go over and get digging at them, too!
Heidi brought home a paper today. Instrument lessons will be starting. 4th grade is the first year that they offer it. Heidi is excited, she wants to learn to play the flute, just like gramma Grady does! So, we gotta look into buying/renting one. She has had 2 1/2 years of piano lessons, so I hope that will help her. Her piano teacher retired from giving lessons last January. She was in her 60th year of giving lessons. Yes, she was 81 years young! We wanted to start lessons again this fall, but I haven't found a teacher in my budget yet! The local music stores charge just shy of $20 per 1/2hour lesson! That is ridiculous! And Kirsten wants to start, too. So, not sure yet, if I want to try giving them myself, or not. I tried that before Heidi started formal lessons, and it DID NOT work. So, I'll keep looking for someone who will give lessons out of their home.

First Day of School!

Labor Day!
We had a lovely day yesterday. Meeting in the morning, and then we stopped and got BBQ chicken on the way home. yummy! There was a picnic in the afternoon that we went to until about 9pm. It was so wonderful to see everyone again! We had a great turnout!
Leigh is at Darren and Rebecca's today, putting their bathroom back together. It sounds like it is coming along very well. I am hoping to go take a peak at the progress later today on my way to work. 4.5 weeks until their wedding!
This is my last week of orientation/training at work. I have had to work the schedule of the person training me for the last 12 weeks! Starting next week I will be on my permanent schedule, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 7p-7a. There isn't mandatory overtime at work, but if it is available (which it almost always is), I can take it. So that may be an option for some extra spending money! :)
I am working in the girls' room today. We got most of the stuff out of it the other day. Today is organizing day! fun, right? NOPE!! I got some paint for the walls, but I don't have time to get to that today....so hopefully later in the week. clothes and toys are much more important in preparing for school.
Tomorrow is the girls' first day of school. Leigh will be getting them up and taking them to school. I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall and observe THAT production. He hasn't ever done it, and I won't even be here to answer his 1 million questions! bummer!!! :)

in between shifts...
Leigh has the kids at Darren and Rebecca's, so I get some quiet time.... It has been a very stressful week, and this momma needs some ME time!
The girls room is 90% cleaned out. Not much longer and it will be! I am hoping to get the painting done on Monday. Maybe Leigh can build their beds on Monday, too???!!! we'll see.
My Gramma Grady turned 94 years young yesterday! She is so amazing and very much an inspiration to me. I hope that if I live to be her age, that I am as independent and capable as she is!

cleaning out their room!
Leigh worked at Coke today... he should be home shortly.
I work tonight at the hospital...7p-7a. Leigh and the kids are going to Darren and Rebecca's tomorrow to help with the remodelling there. We went last evening... drywalling, ripping out the bathroom, etc. etc. They only have a couple weeks to get it all done before they start all the prewedding occasions! I will be sleeping all day tomorrow since I work tomorrow night, too! Sunday is morning meeting, then a nap before the picnic in the afternoon!

Just another crazy day...
When I woke up awhile later...the unsupervised kids had made a dump out of the living room. urg!!! mad mommy!!! So... the kids are cleaning, and I am trying not to scream. That is the hardest thing about running with sleep deprivation: I have NO patience. Leigh will be home soon, and he has agreed to deal with the situation.
I remember when I was a kiddoe. If mom had to call dad at work to tell him about a situation at home, we were in BIG trouble!! We dreaded it when dad would discipline us!!
Anyway, Life with kids. I think we may go for icecream tonight. We have a wonderful little icecream place a couple miles from here. It is owned by a retired couple that turned their first floor of their victorian home into an oldfashioned ice cream parlor. They have the best ice cream, and very fair prices! They are very family oriented, too, which is really fun for the kids. They welcome everyone like their next door neighbor.
Tomorrow, I have 1/2 day at home to get some cleaning done. Then I work a 12 hr. tomorrow night. Gotta nap in the afternoon.

new blogger alert!
Conventions are over....and school is begining for the girls next week. Heidi is starting 4th grade, her last year in Elementary School! Next year she is off to the Middle School!! Kirsten is going into 1st grade. She is very excited to not be a Kindergartener! :)
Today was shopping for school. bookbags, pencil bags, sneakers and ofcourse clothes. It has been the first time in months that the girls and I could go shopping and really have fun with it. Then, I get called in to work tonight. crazy eh? But atleast they shortened my shift for Saturday night.
Leigh is working at Coke this week. Whenever I don't work/sleep, he does! ha. So far it has been working really well.
I need to get some rest before staying up all night!
